FOBID acts as a link between national and international library work. The aim of FOBID is to stimulate the exchange of knowledge about librarianship in an international context. This involves a greater participation of Dutch libraries and colleagues in international conferences, both for the purpose of advocacy and professional development, and it involves profiling Dutch library work in an international setting.

FOBID is aligned with the international policy framework of the Netherlands, including European policy, wherever possible. With information and advice, we support international activities of Dutch libraries, in the context of (EU) exchange, development cooperation and otherwise. We also promotes international library activities in the Netherlands, such as IFLA satellite conferences.
