Op 29 februari 2024 organiseerde de RDA-Commissie van FOBID de en studiedag ‘RDA en Linked Open Data.
De afgelopen jaren is er veel veranderd in RDA. Met de publicatie van de nieuwe RDA Toolkit zijn technische vernieuwingen doorgevoerd, zijn de mogelijkheden voor linked data uitgebreid en wordt een steeds internationalere doelgroep bediend. De studiedag maakte inzichtelijk wat de gevolgen daarvan zijn voor de huidige praktijk.

Library staff are heartily invited to join Utrecht University Library for an International
Staff Training Week, November 13-17, 2023. The overall topic is ‘the Future Proof
Library’.
University libraries are increasingly faced with new technologies, ongoing digitalization
and changing needs of researchers and students. These developments affect all aspects
of the library. During this staff week we focus on the challenges and changes we
experience in the field of accessibility and findability of scholarly information.
Utrecht University Library takes great pleasure in fostering the exchange of knowledge
and experiences on a wide range of topics, including:
The programme will include Utrecht University staff presentations, participant
presentations, and interactive sessions. Participants will be afforded valuable
opportunities to engage in knowledge exchange, learn from one another, and actively
partake in enriching discussions.
We cordially invite applications from dedicated professional library staff currently
employed in universities or other research-oriented libraries, experienced in promoting
accessibility and facilitating the discoverability of scholarly information. We kindly request each applicant to share insights into their ongoing projects, their alignment with the programme’s objectives, and their expectations for the training experience.
Working language
The working language is English. We highly recommend at least a B2 (CEFR) level in
communication.

European colleagues participating in the programme must be in receipt of Erasmus Staff Mobility programme funding form their home institutions. The deadline for applying is Friday, August 18th, 2023. We invite you to fill in the online application form.

The nominations process for IFLA’s extraordinary election for a new President-elect and Treasurer open. There are six weeks for candidates to come forward, and for Members and Affiliates to submit nominations.

The Stichting IFLA Foundation Programme, supported by the grant from Arcadia Foundation, and in partnership with IFLA, LIBER and SPARC Europe has started with the implementation of a three-year programme, titled as: Knowledge Rights 21.
Knowledge Rights 21 aims to mobilize the potential of Europe’s knowledge institutions, particularly libraries, to engage with others in order to implement reforms to copyright law and regulation, that enables libraries to provide significantly greater possibilities to access and use copyrighted works. The programme aims to promote reforms at the European and national levels, and to provide valuable examples for the rest of the world.
The main goal is to drive change in the following six areas where progress is both possible and necessary in the short term:

The 8th German Library Congress organized by Bibliothek und Information Deutschland (BID) has been moved from March 14-17 to May 31-2 June.
This year’s convention motto is #CreatingFreeSpaces. The experiences during the pandemic have made clear how important the link between the digital and analog dimensions is. Deciding exactly how to fill the free and open spaces in libraries is a process that is constantly being reviewed.
At this congress, FOBID and BID complete their collaborative project, which has been running since 2018.
The congress will be held as a face-to-face event with digital elements (livestream). The congress programme and registration for the congress will be activated on 15 February 2022.
The Cultural Participation Fund and the German Soziokultur Fund have been working together since 2013 to stimulate exchanges between Dutch and German cultural organisations. Libraries are also eligible to submit applications for grants. Meet & Match webinars will be held on October 14 and November 18, in which you can get more information about the grant programs.

Klaas Gravesteijn will be the new director of the Vereniging van Openbare Bibliotheken (VOB) (Association of Public Libraries ) from 1 July 2021. He currently works as a policy advisor for association affairs at the VOB.

Through Citizen Science, the fruitful connection between libraries and citizens got a new impetus and framework. In this session the speakers will introduce the topic with an overview of the concept of Citizen Science and its relation to Open Science and present examples from GLAM institutions to inspire the participant for their own activities.
